The tryouts for the first-ever competitive USA Team were held in Tampa, FL the weekend of September 14th - 16th. Eighteen of the country's best power soccer athletes competed in friendly, but intense competition in an effort to earn 1 of 8 spots on the USA Team. This team will represent the USA in Japan at next year's World Cup. Four alternates will also be selected. Athletes performed skill drills and were evaluated during a series of competitive scrimmages. The top 12 athletes will be announced in the upcoming weeks. These 12 athletes will then compete in January 2007 at another training camp, where the top 8 will be finally determined. This is a major milestone in the history of US power soccer and the level of play demonstrated during this tryout was phenomenal. Local media and fans enjoyed a 3 hour public demonstration of the sport on Saturday, September 16th. The overall opinion of the public was in favor of the new style of play and they were very impressed with the quality of the top US athletes.
