NationalTryouts135Team USA!  These were the final words chanted by all as camp came to a close.  On September 14-16, over 20 volunteers, 18 players, 2 coaches, and 1 referee gathered in Tampa, Florida to take part in the first ever Team USA Selection Camp.  The camp was extremely successful with players showing their skills, learning, improving, and developing as individuals and a team.

The schedule was a strenuous one as each day the players spent over seven hours on the court. The first day the players were challenged with five hours of skills testing and took over 4500 kicks!  The second day drills and situational plays were practiced in the morning and scrimmages were held in the afternoon.  On the third day, a few situational plays were practiced and the afternoon was spent scrimmaging in front of spectators from the community.

I'd like to thank the volunteers for making the camp run smoothly, and Jessi Navarro and the Tampa Thunder for hosting the camp and arranging the excellent lunches, facilities, transportation, and accommodations. With the help of everyone, players were able to focus on their objective and enjoy the experience. Players were challenged in every aspect of the game and all of them improved their skills significantly. One of the things that I was most impressed with is how the players came together as a team on and off the court. Assistant Coach Dominic Russo and I are extremely excited about the development and the potential of the team.

Thanks to all the players who attended and the support from family, friends, and the community.  I look forward to the future of the USA National Power Soccer Team and winning the 2007 World Cup in Japan next October.
