A Message from the President!

Dear Power Soccer friends and members,

I hope those of you who were in the National Tournament had an exciting and competitive weekend in Indianapolis. It was a great weekend with noticeable higher intensity and skill and I only suspect it will increase as teams go back to their home states and develop new plays and strategies.

The annual meeting also took place during the national tournament weekend. Membership approved an increase to the team registration fee of $50.00 per team which will bring team registration to $250.00 this fall. This increase will assist the USPSA to continue to reach out to new power soccer players across the country and bring them the excitement you have all experienced and enjoyed.

Congratulations to Tracy Mayer from MN who was voted in and has the seat of the Deputy Vice President. We are happy to have Tracy officially on board and we know he will add a lot to the organization.

The H1N1 virus has been looming in the background and has not received  the media exposure as it did when it first hit the US.. Recently, the 1 millionth case was reported worldwide. The USPSA is taking the virus seriously and has struck a pose of cautiousness concerning power soccer camp.  The Courage Center runs a great camp and the concerns are not with the Camp Courage but rather the gathering of people who are at risk. The World Health Organization has also issued a paper indicating to doctors to no longer test for H1N1 but rather they should assume the patient has the virus and begin to treat for it. Please, those of you who are at risk, be careful with this. Because the media hasn't reported on this doesn't mean the risk does not exist out there.

The first major event of the new season will be the Americas Champions Cup in October. This International competition will be held in Atlanta, GA between the top four finishing division 1 teams from this years national tournament and the top four teams from Canada. The teams to represent the US will be Circle City Rollers, Atlanta Synergy, RHI Sudden Impact, and Ball State Cardinals. Please join me in wishing all of our teams good luck in this event.

Team USA invitations for selection camp will be going out very soon. This next team will defend the 2007 World Cup Championship win. Good luck to all of you who will be invited.

I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Dominic Russo
President
USPSA
