Dominic Russo, USPSA PresidentPresident's Letter

Dear Teams,

The new season is upon us and there is a new order of competition and a renewed priority to register. This year there will no longer be divisions but rather all USPSA teams will be divided into conferences. The objective is to develop a means to maintain the integrity of competition while adjusting for future growth of the sport. While every effort has been made to anticipate a variety of situations and questions, as with anything that is new, we will work to deal with any unintended consequences and unforeseen issues as quickly and equitably as possible.

There will be a 12 game requirement to qualify for your Conference Cup Championship Tournament at the end of the season. This is why it is important to get registered and playing games as early as possible to meet the new required number of games.

This year for the first time, you will be able to make a choice to compete or not. You may opt out of competition at the time of registration. You can still play games, however you will not be involved in a...

Dear Members and friends of the USPSA,

The season came to an incredible finish with a shoot-out in the Division I game with Circle City Rollers repeating their win for a second straight year and a third time in four. It was an incredible finish with both teams fighting hard for that top spot.

Division II finish was a confirmation of the Minnesota Thunder as the top team. The Thunder had two players score 10 goals each throughout the tournament. RHI Indy Cruisers played a good game but the Thunder ultimately prevailed. Congratulations to all teams who competed in this great event.

The annual meeting and elections were also held during the tournament. At the annual meeting there was much discussion about the reorganization of competition and in the end the membership approved to move forward with the plan presented.

Congratulations to Jenny Mitchell our newest member of the Executive Board. Jenny will serve as the new Secretary of the USPSA. I look forward to Jenny's contributions in the upcoming two years. I'd like to thank...

President's Letter

Dear Members and Friends of the USPSA,

Regionals are now completed and invitations have been sent out to those teams who have qualified for the national tournament. There was some great competition at all tournaments, which speaks to the success and impact of this great sport. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Far West Wheelchair Sports, Courage Center, Fernando Foundation, Turnstone Center, and Team Royalty who each hosted these regional competitions. I would also like to thank each of the organizations and teams who hosted events like the Power Blast, Ameristar Tournament, and the various league programs that are keeping the sport growing and our players, coaches, and referee's active.

I want to also take this opportunity to recognize the work of Tracy Mayer with the further development of our referee program. Tracy and Chris Mulholland have worked together to make improvements in the processes and training of one of the most important parts of our organization, our referee's! Their work always lends credibility to the game, for without them, our time would be merely...

Dear Members and Friends,

It is almost spring, although Mother Nature has continued to batter us with snow and rain all over the country. Preparations are being finalized to hold this years' Regional Tournaments. Competition will again be very close in all areas. Good luck to all of you on your quest to make the National Tournament.

Elections will be held for three open positions, President, Executive Vice President, and Secretary. Nomination forms are available for download on the USPSA website.

Some committee's have not been active and need members and participation. Some of those committee's are Athlete's Committee, Financial Committee, Equipment Committee, and Hall of Fame. Please contact me if you have the skills and initiative to participate on any of these committee's.

We are working hard to finalize the breakdown of our new competition structure, which will eliminate divisions and initiate better and more competition. Part of this new initiative involves adding a committee/commission to our organization. It will be called the competition committee. This...

President's Letter

Dear Members,

We are in our fourth season. It wasn't very long ago we were a small group of well intentioned and interested individuals with a grand idea and while we haven't reached the ultimate goal of reaching every power wheelchair users in the United States, we have made great strides. As we move down this path to reach our ultimate goal there are many firsts that we as an organization and you as members experience. Just a couple of weeks ago, we held our first FIPFA sanctioned International event between the top four US clubs and the top Canadian clubs. This was a great event and a great experience for all participants. I am excited about the progress and the development of our neighbors, in Canada, just north. I look to the day when we have several countries represented in our America Zone competing for the America's Champions Cup. A great thank you goes out to the Fernando Foundation for hosting this event.

I wish the players good luck in the selection camp process. I don't envy the coaching staff of our next nationals team, as I know the talent of all players has greatly...

President's Letter

The past three months have been very active for the USPSA. In February, we had an opportunity to showcase USPSA at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in St Louis, MO. The convention boasted attendance of over 7000 soccer coaches from across the US. An exhibition game of power soccer was also presented at the event, thank you to the athletes and coach of the DASA Dynamites.

Our referee program is starting to emerge. With the endorsement and support of the USSF. Director of Referee Development, Paul Tamberino has written a letter of support to all referees across the US. This letter clears the way for USSF referees to become involved in power soccer without the concern of jeopardizing their status with USSF. With the future growth of a referee pool, it is imperative to keep referee's active in local games so they can continue to hone their skills of the game. Our financial commitment to these referee's is to pay $25 per game for a center and $15 for an assistant referee.

Karen and I also attended a three-day FIPFA meeting in San Francisco. As a member of the FIFPA...

President's Letter

Dear Members and Friends of Power Soccer,

In the past couple of months there has been a lot of activity for the USPSA. In November, we had a great opportunity to present power soccer at the United Soccer Leagues AGM in Tampa Florida. Elio and Jessie Navarro and Justin McFatridge joined me for the presentation. We had an opportunity to show our new DVD and answer questions about our sport. Although the group was small, all were intrigued with power soccer and its growth.

Two days after the presentation we were given an opportunity to hold exhibition games at the USL Soccerfest. This is an annual youth championship competition made up of soccer teams from all over the country. Tampa Thunder, Tampa Crossfire, and Atlanta Synergy all played a part in this exhibition. The event was a great success and we have been invited to return again next year.

I also received the resignation of Mike Hayes as Deputy Vice President. Thank you to Mike for your service. I have assumed those responsibilities until an adequate candidate presents himself or herself. Since that time, we have developed regular...

President's Letter

Hello everyone.

A new season has begun and with it brings new teams, new athletes, a lot of competition, and the continued growth and awareness of our organization through our executive board, committees and volunteers across the country.

We have a great opportunity in November to present our sport at the United Soccer League (USL) Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida. This annual meeting has attendance of over 10,000, many of them franchise owners. I am very excited to showcase our sport at this venue! I will be unveiling our new marketing video there, I hope you are as excited about it as I am.

In addition to the DVD presentation, we will also display exhibition games to thousands of soccer players, fans and more. This has exciting possibilities for the USPSA as well as your local teams around the country where professional USL teams exist.

The Tournament Selection Committee has been working hard to develop a plan for equal opportunity to qualify for Nationals this year. We have some new hosts and I would like to thank each city and/or organization for providing more opportunity for...
