President's Letter
Dear membership,
Registration deadline has come and gone and I am pleased to announce we have increased the number of registered teams to 60 and we expect a few more new programs to join in the coming weeks. This is exciting growth and shows the results from a variety of clinics we have held over the past several months.
There has been some great activity in the Northeastern Region as there are new programs in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. In addition to all the clinics, there is also a referee training planned for December 18 in New Hampshire. We hope to have a great number of referees attend and be trained to work local games in the New England area. This is very exciting as the New England states are very close and competition can be scheduled regularly.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our first team in the great state of Texas, the Houston Fireballs along with the Chargers from Vermont.
There was also a referee training class in Philadelphia in October. I'd like to thank Chris Mulholland for his time and efforts to help teams have access to fulfill their referee needs.
Our long awaited training DVD, "Drills, Skills and More" has been completed and is available on the USPSA website. I'd like to thank ATG for generously underwriting this project. I know this DVD will help many power soccer players and coaches to learn the fundamentals and some new drills.
On the international front, the FIPFA is waiting to hear from the International Paralympics Committee about acceptance of power soccer in the 2016 Paralympics. An announcement will come out as soon as information becomes available.
There will also be a discussion regarding foreign players by the Athlete Advisory Committee. Barbara Peacock is the chair of that committee so be on the lookout for communication and solicitation for participation.
On the home front, the Marketing Committee is working on a project to provide coaches and players with resources to recruit new players. All of us can play a part with growing the sport and bringing the thrill and excitement of power soccer to other power wheelchair users in your area. The goal is to grow more teams and help your team with recruitment and expanding your own program. Information will be coming soon, so please look out for that.
A new ball was tested during the Team USA training camp and present at camp was the Chair of the Equipment Specifications Committee, Joe Carrow. Working through the Equipment Specifications Committee, the USPSA hopes to define and make recommendations on equipment being used and potential new equipment testing to ensure there is a process to bring you quality equipment recommendations.
Finally, I am pleased to announce the US Soccer Federation has generously donated team kits for Team USA. As you can imagine this would have been a major expense for the players and team. I am very appreciative to US Soccer for their quick and generous delivery of this great need.
The season is upon us so let's get rolling and play some soccer!
All the best,
Dominic Russo
President
United States Power Soccer Association
REGISTRATION UPDATE
I am proud to announce that the USPSA has reached 60 registered teams! We warmly welcome 6 new teams to the power soccer family, in particular the teams in new states - the Vermont Chargers is the first team in Vermont and the Houston Fireballs is the first team in Texas. There are now power soccer teams in 21 states around the country.
New power soccer teams can still join for this season! Visit www.powersoccerusa.net/registration for full registration requirements.
Remember that before teams can play any power soccer games, all your players must be registered. More than 75% of our teams are fully registered, but some still have a few athletes or staff members who haven't registered online or sent in their waivers. If you have questions about your team's readiness, feel free to send me an email at secretary [at] powersoccerusa [dot] net.
Sincerely,
Jenny Mitchell
USPSA Secretary

GLENDALE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT WRAP-UP
Glendale Power Soccer held the Glendale Invitational, our First power soccer tournament on November 6-7 at Glendale Community College. We competed with strong teams from Arizona, Santa Barbara, and Hollister. Each team played 5 games throughout the two-day tournament. Each team was competitive and played well. Santa Barbara Rollin' Gauchos took home a First Place trophy, and the Glendale Rough Riders came in Second. Joey Wells from the Glendale Rough Riders was named MVP of the tournament. Congratulations to all the winners!
The Glendale Wild Wheelers had a record of 1-3-1 for the tournament. We took down the Santa Barbara Rollin' Rebels and our game with the Arizona 3rd Degree ended in a tie. I am proud of our young team in its second season, and terrific play by the Glendale Rough Riders. Final results are listed below:
First place: Santa Barbara Rollin' Gauchos
Second place: Glendale Rough Riders
Third place: Hollister Free Wheelers
Fourth place: Arizona Heat 3rd Degree
Fifth place: Glendale Wild Wheelers
Sixth place: Santa Barbara Rollin' Rebels
We would like to thank all the coaches, administrators, families, and friends for your support in planning this tournament. We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to Costco, Ralphs, Quiznos, and many others that supported our event with generous donations.
We are looking forward to the upcoming tournaments this season. Go out and play!
