Dominic Russo, USPSA PresidentPresident's Letter

Dear members,

Happy New Year!

Competition has been abundant so far this season with over 100 games played through December. This is a great start and supports our goal for teams to play more games.

I had the opportunity to travel to the University of New Hampshire to attend a referee training class. There were 12 in attendance with referees from New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont in attendance. It was good to meet these new referees, players, and coaches during this Saturday afternoon in December. This will now pave the way for sanctioned games to begin in the New England area. Thanks again go out to Chris Mulholland for teaching this class and helping power soccer to grow in the Northeast.

Work on our referee program continues. Chris Mulholland has delivered a draft of entry level and follow-up referee exams. Once these documents are finalized we will begin to utilize this tool at training clinics and on a yearly basis as a way to measure their understanding of the laws of our game.

The World Cup preparations and plans begin to develop as we move closer to this great event. I sent out some information in December with a short turn around time. It was a package developed by the French organizers. I hope anyone who was interested in attending was able to take advantage of this great package. I apologize for the short timing and the minor typos in the package but we wanted to get the information out to give all of you a chance to take advantage.

Team USA continues to train hard. The team will travel again to the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama. The team has received a generous donation from US Soccer through their donation of team kits, which entails home and away jerseys, warm-ups, training shirts, and backpacks.

Be on the lookout for announcements on elections. Ericka Sutton is the chairperson for the Elections Committee and will be broadcasting the upcoming positions in the near future. Consider taking part in your organization.

Let's keep rolling!

Dominic Russo

United States Power Soccer Association

REGISTRATION UPDATE

Welcome to 2011, everyone! The January 1st deadline of new teams and roster changes has come and gone. Any returning players must have registered by January 1st to be eligible to play in their Conference Cup Tournament. All transfers must also have been completed. Any brand new players may still join up till March 1st and play in the post-season tournaments. Any new teams who wish to register will be automatically placed in Non-Conference.

Several teams decided to drop down to Non-Conference status on December 1st. This leaves the Premier conference with 11 teams, the Champions conference with 9 teams, the Presidents conference with 9 teams, and the Founders conference with 8 teams. All head coaches and team representatives received a list of contacts and the promotion/relegation rules for their conference.

USPSA has reached 60 registered teams!! We warmly welcome the Central Valley Ghostriderz of Fresno, California to the power soccer family.

Required Games and Scheduling

All Conference teams must play a minimum of 12 games by April 30th to be eligible for their Conference Cup tournament. At least two (2) of those games must be against teams in the same conference or higher. Visit www.uspsateams.org to confirm how many official games your team has played.

If you would like your upcoming games to be listed on the USPSA websites and e-newsletter, please email the details of the games to secretary [at] powersoccerusa [dot] net. If your event is an open invitational tournament with 6 or more teams, please also fill out the Tournament Scheduling Form.

Rosters, Game, and Standings @ USPSATeams.org

USPSATeams is the home for all scores and standings around the league. As of today, all score sheets received and validated have been added to the scores page and the teams' standings updated with their current records. Please remember to submit score sheets within two weeks of games played.

USPSATeams is also where game hosts and coaches can check teams' active rosters. All registered players are listed on the "Athletes" page, which is sortable by Team Name. Use the drop-down box to select a team and view their roster. This can help alleviate issues over non-registered athletes playing in games.

If you have questions about your team's games, please do not hesitate to ask: email secretary [at] powersoccerusa [dot] net!

Sincerely,
Jenny Mitchell
USPSA Secretary

USPSA and ABILITIES EXPO JOIN FORCES

The USPSA and the Abilities Expo have partnered for the last few years in an effort to promote the sport of power soccer. The Abilities Expo does a fantastic job promoting the many opportunities available to the disabled community through these events. This coming year will be no different, with five Abilities Expo's planned across the US this year, the USPSA is preparing to showcase the sport at each expo with a booth and exhibition games.

For teams that live near one of the scheduled Abilities Expo's we would encourage you to consider taking part. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet potential athletes and share with them the sport of power soccer. Once arrangements have been made for attending the expo's your team will be contacted with the chance to take part in the exhibition games and/or helping to man the booth. Below is a schedule for the upcoming Abilities Expo...more information to follow...
