Dear Members and Friends of the USPSA,
The past month has been an exciting and historic time for US Power Soccer as our National Team won a second FIPFA World Cup. The staff and members of this team are the first US Soccer team to win back-to-back World Cups! While the team suffered a loss to England - its ever first loss in competition - winning in the final game against England made it that much more satisfying. The English have a strong team and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Team USA outscored their opponents 41 - 1 over 6 games. Michael Archer was tied for high goal scorer with 9 goals and was awarded a well-deserved MVP of the World Cup.
The players were resilient throughout this entire two-year process, always keeping their eyes on the goal. I couldn't be more proud of everyone involved with this team. All who were in Paris noticed the professionalism, class, and sportsmanship displayed by this group of players and staff.
A great amount of credit must be given to Head Coach, Chris Finn and Assistant Coach, Mike Hayes in preparing this extraordinary group of players for competition. They were able to take these talented individuals and bring them together as a team. This is a task not easily done, given the geographic location of everyone. Well done.
Thank you to Mark Pratt, Mark Beron, Lemuel Calvert, and Jonathan Newman for their efforts in supporting the coaches and players in all of their roles, from travel planning and equipment repair, to finance management and knowledge of the rules. A special thank you goes out to Herb Winslow who played the role of tour director while in Paris. It is impossible to express the impact each of these individuals had on the outcome of the Cup. Thank you.
Each member of the team is recognized as a leader and role model for our sport, not only in the US, but also throughout the world. The manner in which each of them handled themselves sets the standard for all. I was honored to witness their success in becoming world champions. Congratulations to Michael Archer, JC Russo, and Omar Solario for being two-time World Cup champions!
The new season has started and teams have begun their journey towards their respective cups. We have 10 teams who have not renewed their registration this season, but we hope their situations change and that they consider continuing their involvement with the USPSA. It is only through membership support that we can continue our mission of growing teams throughout the US.
Finally, it is the time of year when we all reflect and give thanks. I would like to give thanks to the many coaches, team managers, referees, organizers, committee members, and the USPSA Board members for their volunteering spirit and passion. They help make this sport everything it is today and what it will be in the future.
I wish all of you a safe and joyful holiday season.

USPSA at the Abilities Expo San Jose!
The last Abilities Expo of 2011 was held at the McEnery Convention Center the weekend before Thanksgiving. The USPSA was there represented by Jenny Mitchell, Nancy Mitchell, Jonathan Newman, and several local players and friends.
The Abilities Expo was a great place to introduce power soccer to people all over the state, as some visitors had heard a little about the game but hadn't seen much of it, while others were brand new to the idea of a team sport for power chairs.
On Saturday afternoon, members from the local San Jose Steamrollers and San Jose Rockets put on a demo in the Events Center. After about 30 minutes of warm-up and game play, volunteers fitted chairs with plastic guards so people could get a chance to participate. Several of new players even scored their first goal!
Overall, it was a very good event. Reaching out to people who haven't yet seen or played power soccer brings about a whole new level of excitement and appreciation for the sport. We look forward to talking further with all of the people that we met. Hopefully all of the Bay Area teams will gain some new players this season!
Alec G. Cunningham
(August 2, 1996 - October 22, 2011)
Alec Cunningham moved to Massachusetts from Michigan in August of 2011 and shortly after joined the Sudbury Sharp Shooters power soccer team. A young and aspiring defender, Alec was an enthusiastic and hardworking athlete from the get go. Alec came to practice each week with a radiant smile on his face ready to play and learn more about the game. It did not take long for Alec to realize how much he loved power soccer...he played outside of practice with friends, was the goalie on his school's TOPS soccer team, and traveled to local clinics around the state just to get more time on the court. Sadly, Alec passed away on the same day that he would have made his debut in a power soccer game.
We carry Alec's love for the sport and his zeal for life with us each time we put on our jerseys. We dedicate our season to him.
